John Allen Harris Jr

John Allen Harris, Jr. completed his earthly journey on February 3, 2026, entering eternal life with his Lord and Savior. He lived a full and joyful life, rich in family, friendship, hard work, and adventure. His days were lived with intention, energy, and gratitude--and his greatest treasure was always his family. Whether it meant long days of work, quiet sacrifices, or simply being present, he took immense pride in being a devoted husband, father, and the most incredible Papa. Born on June 3, 1958, in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, Johnny was the son of John Allen and Juanita Carraway Harris. He grew up in the small community of Gallman, where “Little Johnny” was welcomed—and thoroughly spoiled—by his two older sisters, a tradition they lovingly continued throughout life. He loved aggravating his sisters and living the life of a “country boy” with all his dirt bikes, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and one of his prize possessions, “Fred,” his 4X4 Chevy. Johnny married the love of his life, Theresa, in March of 1980, and together they built a home filled with laughter, loyalty, and the kind of steady love that anchors a family. He was a proud father to Jessica and Jennifer. His greatest joy came from being “Papa,” where he shared his love of the outdoors with all four grandchildren. He was especially smitten when he finally had “boys” to teach the ways of the farm—how to run tractors, operate heavy equipment, bale hay, and tend to livestock. Later, he was blessed with two little princesses who stole his heart just as completely. He introduced them to the simple joys of country life—riding through the pastures, looking at cattle, and taking them to their favorite “restaurants”—Sonic, Waffle House, and Burger King. Johnny spent many years working in the seismic industry while also enjoying his lifelong passion for farming, alongside his father. He eventually retired to the family farm and followed in his father’s footsteps in demolition while passing on the traditions to grandchildren. Whether he was bailing hay at sunrise, mending fences, or checking cattle at dusk, the farm was where he felt most at peace. Johnny was a hardworking man in every sense of the word. He believed in showing up, doing the right job, and providing for those he loved. Yet, beneath that strong work ethic was a man full of humor, warmth, and a genuine love for people. He brought joy wherever he went. As we reflect on countless memories, the one repeated most often— “he was my role model,” “my hero”—is the greatest honor, a reminder of how many lives he touched in such a positive way. Known by many names—John, Johnny, Bo—he will be remembered by countless people, each carrying a favorite story or cherished memory. He lived a life of service, helping anyone in need and expecting nothing in return. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, John Allen Harris, Sr. and Juanita Carraway Harris. He leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Theresa; his daughters, Jessica Templeton and Jennifer (Avery) Doerle; his four beloved grandchildren, Kaden Templeton, John Everett Templeton, Mary Louise Doerle, and Edie Doerle; sisters, Retha Ann Harris Manning (Lester) and Debbie Runnels-Skinner (Bobby Joe); sister-in-law, June Sharp Richardson; brother-in-law, Vernon Smith (Patricia); and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Many will remember Johnny Harris as a farmer, friend, father, husband, and Papa. Above all, he will be remembered for his love, generosity, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace, resting in God’s promises. His legacy will live on in the fields he tended, the family he cherished, and the many lives he touched with his quiet strength. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Crystal Springs, Mississippi with visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at First Baptist Church, Crystal Springs. Burial to follow at the Gallman Cemetery.
